When studying in Canada, health insurance is mandatory to ensure you receive healthcare throughout your studies. So, what documents do international students need to prepare in order to register for health insurance and protect their own health?

1️ Research the policy of each province:

Some provinces, like British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan, allow international students to join the public healthcare system.

Other provinces require you to purchase private insurance or go through your school.

2️ Register as soon as you arrive: Contact the international student support office or the school's health department for detailed guidance.

3️ Prepare the necessary documents: Passport, study permit, acceptance letter, and any required documents from your school.

4️ Pay the insurance fee: The fee varies depending on the province and the insurance plan, typically ranging from 600 – 900 CAD per year.
