🎯 What are ESL/LINC?

• ESL (English as a Second Language) and LINC (Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada) are completely free language courses funded by the Canadian government.

• These courses are specifically designed to help Permanent Residents and other eligible immigrants develop the necessary English or French language skills for everyday life and work.

To register for the free ESL/LINC language classes, you need to complete two main steps. Registration is not done in a single location but depends on the area you live in:

1. Language Assessment

This is a mandatory step. You will need to take a language test to determine your current language level. You need to contact an authorized Language Assessment Centre in the city or area where you live. The center will provide you with a certificate showing your language level (e.g., Canadian Language Benchmarks - CLB), which is required to place you in the appropriate LINC/ESL class.

2. Register for Classes: Contact a Service Provider

After you receive your language assessment results, you can register for classes with one of the service providers:
