As an international student in a new country like Canada, you will face many changes, from the living environment to cultural and daily habits. However, don't worry! Today, PathCan will share some detailed tips to help you easily adjust to life in this maple-leaf country!

1. Housing: Choose a space that always makes you feel comfortable

If you haven’t found a place to stay yet, you can check out websites for student housing like Kijiji, Craigslist, or your school’s page. You might choose between staying in a dormitory, a homestay, or renting an apartment or house. Be sure to carefully look into additional costs like electricity, water, and internet to avoid surprises when paying rent.

Additionally, the location is something you should pay attention to, as you will spend a significant amount of time commuting. Balancing distance and costs is essential!

2. Food: Explore Canadian Cuisine

Explore local food: Canada is known for its unique dishes such as poutine, Montreal-style sandwiches, and seafood dishes like lobster, especially in coastal provinces. Also, don’t forget to try international foods from immigrant communities, like Chinese, Indian, Italian, etc.

Cooking at home: To save money, you can cook familiar dishes yourself. Canada has many Vietnamese markets, so it’s not too difficult for international students to find Vietnamese spices and ingredients.

3. Transportation: Get familiar with the transportation system

Public transportation: Depending on the city you live in, public transportation can be very convenient. In Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver, you can use the subway, bus, or tram to get around. Don’t forget to download apps like Google Maps, Transit, or Moovit to easily find your routes.

Biking: If you want to save money and stay healthy, biking is a great option. Some cities like Vancouver and Montreal offer bike rental services.

Walking: Most areas in Canada have safe and comfortable walking zones, and you can enjoy the fresh air while taking short walks.

Get used to winter: If you arrive in Canada during winter, transportation may be a bit challenging due to snow and ice. Be sure to prepare slip-resistant shoes, a warm coat, and always check the weather before heading out.

Studying abroad in Canada will certainly provide you with many exciting experiences, but also plenty of challenges. By creating a comfortable living space, getting familiar with the diverse food scene, and understanding the transportation system, you will gradually feel more confident in adapting and enjoying life as an international student.

Remember, every difficulty is an opportunity for you to learn and grow. Try to blend into the rhythm of life in Canada, make new friends, and create wonderful memories! PathCan hopes that you will have amazing experiences on your study abroad journey!
