The Spring semester in Canada is approaching its final stretch. From late April to early May, students enter the critical phase filled with deadlines, revision sessions, and final exams. In the whirlwind of pressure, many international students find themselves exhausted, anxious, and losing focus.
However, there is one simple habit that only takes 5-10 minutes a day and can help you maintain calmness and recharge your mental energy - short meditation.

What is meditation?
Meditation is not about sitting in silence for hours as portrayed in movies.
In student life, meditation simply means pausing everything, focusing on your breath, and allowing your mind to rest.
You don’t need a special setting, candles, or soft music (though they can be a plus).
Simply sit still, close your eyes, and pay attention to your breathing for a few minutes - and that’s meditation.
Scientific studies have shown that daily short meditation helps:
- Reduce stress and anxiety levels
- Enhance concentration and memory
- Improve sleep quality
- Increase positive emotions
- Lessen the feeling of being "lost" after long study periods
A clear and alert mind will help you study more effectively, retain knowledge better, and enter exams with greater confidence.
In a stressful exam season, what matters most is not only studying harder but also keeping your mind from falling apart. By dedicating just a few minutes each day to meditation, you are gifting yourself something invaluable: calmness, focus, and the mental strength to win the exam season.
