Every year, the Government of Canada designates May as Asian Heritage Month – a special time to recognize and celebrate the rich contributions of Asian communities to Canadian society.
Throughout the month, events are held across the country, including cultural festivals, art exhibitions, performances, and educational workshops that showcase the diverse cultures of Asia – from East Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia, to Central Asia.
It’s a meaningful opportunity for all Canadians to learn more about the history, traditions, and achievements of Asian Canadians in fields such as science, business, the arts, education, and community service.
Asian Heritage Month is not only a celebration of cultural roots, but also a chance to build cultural bridges, promote mutual understanding, and strengthen unity in Canada’s multicultural society.
The Vietnamese community is an essential part of Canada’s multicultural fabric. Vietnamese Canadians have contributed significantly to business, academia, healthcare, the arts, and community building.
During Asian Heritage Month, cities like Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, and Calgary host events that highlight Vietnamese culture, such as lion dances, áo dài fashion shows, traditional cuisine fairs, art exhibits, and talks on the history of Vietnamese Canadians.
These events not only help younger generations reconnect with their roots but also allow the broader public to appreciate the richness and uniqueness of Vietnamese culture.
