On July 4, 2025, Canada updated the list of eligible fields of study for the PGWP. The government added 119 new fields, focusing on long-term labor shortage areas such as healthcare, social services, education, and trades. At the same time, 178 fields no longer aligned with labor market needs have been removed from the list. However, the removed fields will still remain eligible until early 2026, instead of the previous deadline of June 25.
This means that if you applied for a study permit at one of these schools between June 25 and July 4, you can still apply for the PGWP if you complete your program before the changes take effect. Students should check their program's CIP code to determine whether their field of study is eligible.
If you're preparing to apply for a PGWP, make sure your field of study is still on the eligible list to take advantage of the opportunity to work in Canada after graduation.
